Factory Orders might influence price action if it”s a surprise. Otherwise, exit polling will be Tuesday”s only relevant pre-known event. And that story won”t be surprising unless Democrats seem to be coming from behind.

Friday”s two pre-open reports have no track record for influencing price action, but the post-open items do. Chicago PMI is released privately to its institutional subscribers, whose surprise always impacts price action. The number”s public release several minutes later tends to duplicate or exacerbate the institutional reaction. Consumer Sentiment is also an influential report.

MBA Purchase apps have been influential only when very surprising. The 2-year and 5-year auctions aren”t typically influential either, but would be if they didn”t go off smoothly. The FOMC has come to trigger more volatility than the monthly Employment report, so just one martini at lunch please.
