Econ Calendar – Page 510 – If, Then… Market Timing

Econ Calendar

Look ahead: Economic Calendar

A midday look ahead in preparation for economic reports and events scheduled for the next trading day.

Any obvious reaction to the first day’s Humphrey-Hawkins testimony is often contrary to the second day’s reaction. But as with the first day, Bernanke’s opening statement is disseminated before he speaks, so any later reaction is by weak hands.

Bernanke’s opening statement will be disseminated minutes before it is televised, so any fireworks that causes should be known fairly early unless the questioning phase gets interesting.

The week ends with a single econ report – not much compared to the earnings onslaught, but Housing Starts can be influential if there’s any surprising strength.

The econ reports come out steadily throughout the day. Jobless Claims is already a magnet for volatility. Then the Philly Fed Survey comes 30 minutes after the open, timing that tends often either to accelerate or to reverse any initial trending underway. The afternoon’s Housing Market Index is unusual timing for a mid-week report, more associated with Mondays, which could upset the market flow.
